All about Gout

Gout has been making people keel over in pain since the times of the ancient Egyptians in 2600 BC. It has been known as the rich man’s disease because a lot of kings have rich men in the old times get it due to the abuse of eating very delicious foods. This has continued until now especially now that there is 1 to 2% increase of cases over the years. The reason for this is because of bad lifestyle choices like eating too much junk food and also since life expectancy is improving over the years.

There are quite a number of causes for gout. One main cause is due to dietary choices and the culprits are usually meat, seafood’s, alcohol and fructose-sweetened foods and drinks. Certain drugs can also cause gout and also as a consequence of a medical condition like certain cancers. Strangely enough genetics also play a role in getting this disease.

So how do you treat this? Well, there are quite a number of gout remedies being presented now. Some say that eating about 6 to 8 cherries when attacks occur can help. It can also be used for prevention to. Some use apples as a gout remedy. Experts say that eating about three apples a day can help you prevent gout. It just goes to show you that indeed an apple a day or maybe three can really keep the doctor away. They also have mashed the apples and use the mush to cover inflamed areas. Others would also recommend soaking the area with warm water that has Epsom salts.

But sometimes gout can be too unbearable so there are medical gout treatments available for sufferers. For pain, doctors would prescribe pain relievers. But if the patient can’t handle them a milder but effective medicine is colchicine. And in order to prevent gout too, doctors would give the patient a drug that can block uric acid production. One example of this drug is allopurinol. But just like any other disease, prevention is always better than cure and this disease can be prevented. First is to start with a gout diet wherein you have to limit the intake of meats,

As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and that hold true to any disease. Following a gout diet is a big step in the right direction. This involves liming the intake of meats, seafood, nuts, alcohol and also avoiding junk food. You should also get active because exercise is said to be helpful in preventing gout. Best of all, you need to get some water into your system about 6 to 8 glasses per day if possible so that your body can flush out uric acid through urine.

However, prevention is still better than cure. If you have this then you should follow a gout diet that is to say you need to make sure that the food that you are eating are not rich in meats, seafood and limit alcohol too. You should also get involved in some kind of exercise like walking, jogging or weight lifting as this has been proven to lower uric acid levels in the blood. Best of all, exercise can also prevent other illnesses like stroke, diabetes and heart attacks. Lastly, do not forget to drink plenty of water or as recommended by your physician to help flush out uric acid.

  1. I’m not sure about the tennis shoes, but operating shoes truly help with arch support in your foot (the curved part). And 1 time I got this truly bad heel injury/strain because I wore skater shoes and flip flops as well much. Hope this helps!
